Tred Avon River

Shoreline Resilience

RAUCH inc. was contracted to solve a severe shoreline erosion problem for a property owner with exposure along the Tred Avon River. After land and hydrographic topographic surveys were collected, our design approach evaluated several shoreline erosion mitigation options and Buffer Management Plans. The solution resulted in a 750 linear foot medium energy living shoreline design, with a segmented breakwater sill, and a total of 10,779 square feet of new jurisdictional tidal wetlands.

To ensure the project was permit-viable, our staff conducted a thorough field survey and investigation to collect data on potential SAV habitat disturbance. We prepared an alternative analysis report for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers with a cost-benefit comparison that weighted and quantified nutrient reductions and the self-mitigating benefits of expanding tidal wetlands.

The alternative analysis report was successful in gaining approval from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
