Stormwater Management

Martingham Stormwater Project

Federalsburg, Maryland

Martingham is an unincorporated community on the Miles River just outside the town limits of St. Michaels, Maryland. It is comprised of single-family homes and condominiums and features an 18-hole golf course.

RAUCH, inc. completed a drainage area study for the community that evaluated existing and future drainage problems. Particular focus was given to their ditches and culverts, many of which exceed 50 years old, and are failing. Martingham is also experiencing a common problem of ditches that have accumulated silt and therefore no longer drain properly, resulting in standing water.

Our study identified culverts that need to be replaced with new, modern materials and culverts that need to be repaired. For repairs, we recommended returning drainage swales to their originally designed grades by removing silt, cleaning out culvert pipes, and providing better long-term maintenance. Our team also developed Erosion and Sediment Control and stormwater management strategies for these projects.

As a result of the study, Martingham’s Homeowners Association (HOA) asked our team to assist them in prioritizing the most important drainage solutions to implement this year that would fit within their HOA budget. We have completed a cost/benefit and project ranking analysis to help determine the priority solutions that will deliver the best results for the least cost.

The Initial study was completed May 2022 and the project is ongoing.
