Coastal Resilience
Cypress Park Resilience Project
Pocomoke, Maryland
RAUCH inc. was retained by the City of Pocomoke to provide professional engineering services and associated investigation related to the community’s vision for future use of the park. Located on the Pocomoke River, the park features a 57-foot pedestrian bridge, 260-foot fishing pier, gazebo, exercise stations, and canoe/kayak launch sites.
Our scope of work included reviewing and integrating the results of a recent H&H Model provided by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), assessing worsening flood impacts through field investigation, providing stormwater flow analysis, river staging and storm-event planning, and evaluation of possible solutions to alleviate flooding.
The project also included community visioning for future use of Cypress Park which routinely floods from both rainfall and tidal events. We worked to ensure that proposed solutions to stormwater management complemented the community’s vision for future uses of the park. The park is considered the heart of the community where residents and visitors gather for outdoor recreation and for concerts, festivals, and community events.
Our proposed strategies include the use of nature-based solutions and green infrastructure.
